The acronym for DIREC is delivering intelligent and revolutionary education content. To make this possible, we combine the strength of qualified patient education providers' content and grant/sponsorship funding to provide top-quality education that is not limited by a hospital’s budget, giving a hospital the opportunity, maybe for the first time, to select the most appropriate education for their patients.
DIREC partners with educators and service providers to include clinical patient education on-demand videos and broadcast messaging in each patient’s room. DIREC purchases clinical education from qualified, industry-leading education providers such as Milner-Fenwick, Blausen Medical, Wired MD, and more, and providing it at no cost to participating healthcare facilities. Each hospital chooses the clinical education provider that best meets its needs and DIREC incorporates the 300-500 videos into its programming.
Shortfalls In Patient Education
Patient education is critical to the recovery process, and it begins at the hospital:
• disease, prognosis, and treatment
• how and when to take medication
• how to access hospital services
• community resources
• inspiration and encouragement for the recovery process
Patients need time and multiple opportunities to receive and process this information. However, tight funding limits many hospitals from providing more than a physician’s brief discharge visit and post-discharge instructions. Without adequate information to engage and empower them in the recovery process, patients may misunderstand, disregard, or misapply medication and post-discharge instructions. This often leads to health complications resulting in costly hospital readmissions within 30 days of discharge.
